Local Market Robbed at Gunpoint, Police Say
A & A Deli, at 133 Montgomery St., was robbed shortly before closing time at 8:05 p.m. on Sunday.
A local market was robbed at gunpoint by two men during the Super Bowl on Sunday evening, according to Bloomfield Police.
Two men wearing masks walked into the A & A Deli, at 133 Montgomery St., shortly before closing time at 8:05 p.m., according to police. One of the men brandished a handgun and demanded the clerk hand over the money in the register.
The clerk hit the panic button which called Bloomfield Police to store, located at the corner of Berkeley Avenue and Montgomery Street.
The two men were able to take $57 from the market’s register and flee from the store on foot before police could arrive.
Surveillance video captured the robbery. The investigation is ongoing as police review the surveillance footage.

I can't believe that the Bloomfield police who usually are always visible and present did not get to this location in time due to the fact that Bloomfield Center is only a couple of blocks away. It appears that this is becoming a very unsafe neighborhood to live in. Just this past Saturday I heard gun fire for the first time in the 6 years that I have lived here in Bloomfield. This market is on the corner of my Block I live at 114 Montgomery Street. Also a couple of months ago the Hair Salon located right across the street from this Market on Montgomery was broken into and robbed. What is going on?

Kevin - I can understand how you feel - no where is safe any more especially with the economy the way it is - it is forcing people to rob and steal more and more. I think tht all businesses will have to start putting in the "buzzer" system. Not convenient at times, but a lot safer when you think about it.

I live on Berkeley Ave, less than a 1000 feet from the corner store. Living here for almost 30 years I cannot believe the trash that is now walking and stalking through this neighborhood. Extra police presence would always be welcome, but you can't expect them to be standing on every street corner. Whether the police station is blocks away or on the other side of town, it doesn't matter, Bloomfield blue shows up when you need them.
I'd like to see cameras, YES CAMERAS, being deployed around business areas to oversee the neighborhood. Post the surveillance video on the internet with a reward and you'll see how fast these perps will be identified and turned in.

I personally think that cameras would be a good thing. But I also think that these perps more than likely come from other areas. I dare not mention what areas. However, I am concerned for everyone's safety. These are definitely some praying times.

We are heartbroken, this business just started,we want our neighborhood to be safe and clean,we want everybody to prosper, since new people has move in,it's not safe anymore, some young people gather at late hours at night,in front of the school in fact in the front door of Fairview ,they trash the school with beer cans and other garbage, the Police should patrol the area before is to late to do anything about it and loose to the gangs and criminal element,we beg to whom ever is in charge, please do something.

Bloomfield is slowly turning into Newark (to rob a store for 57 dollars is pathetic) i been in Bloomfield all my life and its only going to get worse once all the apartments are built ,i know you people on Berkley Montgomery , Rowe , Rawson and Jacob and streets used to think you lived on a nice quiet street years ago but times are changing ,the bloods and crips have been infiltrating Bloomfield and the schools since the 90s once they finish all this redevelopment it will get worse.
I remember a few years ago they robbed the guy on maolis at gunpoint the same guys robbed a different store in town they fled though but luckily they got caught with a tip from someone on Americas Most Wanted.
It will be worse when all these new apartments are built cause the town will be over crowded(there supposed to put 200 apartments right there next to the parking garage on glenwood) and they wont hire more policeman so they can save money
Your not safe anywhere but this may be a good time to move to Long Valley or Hacketstown before Bloomfield turns into a slum its only a matter of time at least those two towns still have quiet streets and no crime. or better yet leave Jersey all together and go to Ft Lauderdale

We have slowly seen a decline in our neighborhood throughout the years. More litter and more crime. It is very unfortunate that this small business person, who is striving to make an honest living to support his family, gets robbed at gunpoint by a couple of thugs who would rather steal from hard working people than get a job. We don't have to tolerate this. We have to work together to keep our homes, schools, businesses and children safe. We have to watch out for suspicious activity and call the police. This is not the first or last robbery. My opinion is that we form a community crime watch. This can be done through our Councilman and our Police Department. If you want to organize my email is llopezjoe@aol.com. It's better to do something than nothing!

Is this the laundromat on Montgomery. The store across the street was also robbed one morning. Saw the police as I was walking my dog @5 a.m. Also, they do drugs in Wrights field, but the new play area. I know for a fact because I collected over 15 tiny ziplock bags in one week.

Kevin, Donna, Joe, Bert, JFC, we have a police chief who gets it (and went to Fairview school I think as a kid!)....my advice is for you, keeping your safety in mind, is take some pictures of who is loitering at the school and in that neighborhood and e-mail them into the BPD. There has been some good results with Chief Goul this last year disrupting the organized street crime in the 3rd ward.....Enzo, keep the comments coming!

We moved to Bloomfield 10 years ago and we now own a home here. We r on the other side off of Bay Ave. we have no control over the element that comes around but we do need to be more careful and know that we have to take precautions, it has definatley changed but times have changed and we need to watch our backs. As far as the Police in Bloomfield I commend them they r doing the best they can and r always available when needed. I agree there should be more cameras around for safety reasons, we personally have 4 cameras around our home so we can keep an eye on things on our street and around our home.
