Cinema Series Continues on August Mondays at 12:15 p.m.

The Elizabeth Taylor Film Festival at Bloomfield Public Library Continues Through August.

Monday afternoons in the Bloomfield Public Library has been the place to be during July for the Elizabeth Taylor Film Festival. 

Good news!  The festival continues on all five Mondays in August at 12:15 p.m.

July 25 – A PLACE IN THE SUN - Based on the novel “An American Tragedy” by Theodore Dreiser, this is the story of George Eastman, (Montgomery Clift) the poor nephew of a rich industrialist. George takes a menial job in his uncle’s factory and dates fellow factory worker Alice Tripp (Shelley Winters.) Trouble starts when George meets and falls in love with glamorous socialite Angela Vickers (Elizabeth Taylor.)

Aug. 1 – IVANHOE - Ivanhoe (Robert Taylor) helps good King Richard defeat his evil brother, Prince John. Elizabeth Taylor and Joan Fontaine costar as Ivanhoe’s gorgeous love interests, with George Sanders as his rival.

Aug. 8 – CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF - Why does Brick (Paul Newman) ignore the advances of his wife, Maggie (Elizabeth Taylor)?

The truth comes out as their Southern family’s patriarch (Burl Ives) celebrates his 65th birthday

Aug. 15 – BUTTERFIELD 8 - Gorgeous Gloria Wandrous (Elizabeth Taylor), a promiscuous New York fashion model, becomes involved with an unhappily married businessman (Laurence Harvey). Taylor’s then husband, Eddie Fisher, plays Gloria’s friend, pianist Steve Carpenter. At 28, Taylor won her first Oscar for Best Actress.  

Aug. 22 – THE V.I.P.s - Fog delays a group of travelers as they wait at the V.I.P. lounge of London’s Heathrow Airport.  A famous actress (Elizabeth Taylor) is trying to leave her millionaire husband (Richard Burton) and fly away with her playboy lover (Louis Jourdan).

Aug. 29 – A DATE WITH JUDY - This charming old-fashioned movie stars Jane Powell as Judy, a spunky teenager who chases after her last-minute escort to the school dance (Robert Stack). The young Elizabeth Taylor plays Judy’s best friend, Carol, the town’s poor little rich girl. Enjoy the wonderful musical numbers by Powell, Carmen Miranda and Xavier Cugat.
