The Bloomfield School district has been very busy this month with spring events, school sports, student achievement awards and of course the recent BOE election.

In the Bloomfield school district this month:

Friday, April 27: SEPAC presentation.

A DAY WITH ARI NE'EMAN. Through his life story, Mr. Ne'eman will divulge the 'nuts and bolts' of including students with autism in the general education classroom and the community at-large. BHS auditorium. The first session, 2:45 pm; second session 7 pm.

 

Bloomfield High School

BHS BIOLOGY -- End of Course Testing [05/15/12 - 05/16/12] for all students enrolled in biology.  All biology students must report to school at 7:45 am.

All students taking AP exam on these dates must report to school at 7:45 am.

Delayed opening for non-biology students. All students not enrolled in Biology should report at 10:30

Students who take a school bus will have transportation available at both times.


The VEST program hosted a presentation by Kathy Murarik of the New Jersey Sled Dog Club at the end of March.  She spoke about the particulars of dog sledding as well as her first hand experiences with the annual Iditarod.  Concluding her program and slide show, she was presented with home-made dog biscuits from the VEST students.

Bloomfield Middle School

Daughters of the American Revolution 2011/12 Essay Contest announced two winners from their Bloomfield Chapter: First Place 7th Grade: Grace-Anna Douglas; First Place 8th Grade: Sara Stambolian.  Douglas also received an Honorable Mention at the State level.

On March 18, eleven BMS Choir students performed with the North Jersey Junior Region Choir at Parsippany Hills High School. The North Jersey Junior Region Choir is a group of 200 auditioned 7th, 8th, and 9th grade students selected throughout Northern New Jersey.    BMS student Emma Schieli was one of the featured soloists at the concert.  Student Joseph Parrish, who ranked number one tenor in the region, received the highest audition score overall.  Mr. John Schmidt is choir director for Bloomfield Middle School.

On March 20 and 21, BMS raised $3119 for the American Heart Association through its Hoops for Heart fundraiser, organized by Dana Salonia from BMS and Marci Robinson from AHA.   The  top 3 fundraisers were Zachary Kubisky -$265, Seleste Prude-$140 and Samantha Corio-$100.   Every student that participated in this event received 3 Friendly's coupons for a free ice cream Sunday from the American Heart Association.

On March 28th, BMS welcomed Kellum Smith along with his mother, Ms. Elysse Smith, who delivered a powerful message against school violence.   Kellum was a victim of a vicious attack that left him in a wheel chair’ he shared his inspiring story of courage and his message against violence and bullying.

Berkeley Elementary School

May 7-10 – NJ ASK testing, grades 3 and 4 (5/11, grade 4)

 

Brookdale Elementary School

Demarest School

 

During the month of March, students ran a book drive on behalf of the Bloomfield public library. Library Director Catherine Wolverton visited the school and accepted the donation of about 12 boxes of books.

On March 27, author Maryrose Wood visited to read from her book series, The Incorrigible Children of Aston Place.  There was a book signing and Watchung Booksellers donated three copies to the school library.

On March 22, Mary Campos-Pereira, 5th grader, finished fourth in the Scripps North Jersey Spelling Bee Competition.
