Bloomfield Man Dies After Being Struck by Car on Broad Street Wednesday
The victim and the driver were both Bloomfield residents.
An elderly Bloomfield man died last night after being hit by a car on Broad Street near the intersection of Baldwin.
The pedestrian, aged 88, was struck by a car driven by a 48-year-old man, also a Bloomfield resident, at 9:43 pm Wednesday night, according to the Bloomfield Police Department. The victim sustained head and leg injuries and was transported to UMDNJ Trauma Center in Newark, where he succumbed to his injuries and passed away Thursday morning at 3:30 am.
No further details have been released at this time. The accident is still being actively investigated by the Bloomfield Police Department Traffic Division and the Essex County Prosecutors Office.

Very sad. My condolences to the gentleman's family and friends.
That's not usually a bad location for speeding. Besides the two traffic lights, there's often traffic and people in and out of parking spaces. There is a bend in the road though so in the dark that could be part of the issue. I wonder if someone missed a signal.

This is my neighborhood. People here drive like jerks. They speed everywhere, pass on the right, and drive down the wrong way on a one way street... I've never seen the cops do ANYTHING about it. NOTHING. It makes me so mad. I wish we would have known before we moved here.
