Bloomfield Christmas Toy Drive Spreads Holiday Joy
Hundreds of toys were donated during the township's toy drive this month.
Santa came early to Bloomfield once again this year.
Hundreds of toys were donated recently to the annual toy drive in town.
“This is my favorite event of the year!" said event coordinator and Essex County Commissioner Cynthia Toro. 'It lifts my spirit to see children'S faces light up with joy when they sit on Santa’s lap and point to toys they want. I love being a part of such a meaningful cause”
The event took place on Dec. 16 at the Essex Manor. Bloomfield families enjoyed a fun-filled morning of food, candy, balloons, face painting, gifts and pictures with Santa, Mrs. Clause and the elves.
The event was put on by the Bloomfield Democratic Committee.
“Many of the families we serve struggle on a daily basis to pay their bills that provide basic necessities such as food, clothing and shelter," said Supervisor of the Bloomfield Department of Health and Human Services Paula Peikes.
"There is rarely any money left over for holiday presents or a special day out. This event enabled [families] to have both. One mother hugged me with tears in her eyes and said ‘You do not know how happy this day is for me and my family’.”
Also in attendance were several local officials, who applauded the success of the event.
“Our chairman did a magnificent job, [and] every year it’s better than the last," said Councilman Michael Venezia. "I am proud to support such a great cause."
Democratic Chairman Peter Strumolo said he plans to continue the annual event, saying, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”
